Parenting Arrangements – Easter Holidays

Devising custody agreements after separation and divorce can be time-consuming and emotionally draining for the parents and children involved. Putting the agreements into practice and figuring out the best system or schedule for your family can also be difficult, especially if you feel in the dark about the options available.

The arrangements that you make for your children after you separate are called parenting arrangements. As children grow and their needs change, parents may have to update their parenting arrangements.

Examples of Parenting Arrangements
1. Alternate Weekends - This arrangement results in one parent having the children every alternate weekend, typically from Friday after school until Sunday evening or Monday morning.

2. Alternate Weeks - This arrangement allows the children to have equal time with each parent on an alternating basis, but some families may find that going one week with only seeing one parent is not ideal. This arrangement is only practical if both parents live relatively close to one another.

3. School Holidays - You can negotiate an arrangement with your ex-spouse or ex-partner to spend time with the children on specific holidays such as easter holidays, father’s days or birthdays. You could also think about alternating years; for example, your children to spend this easter with you and the next with your ex-spouse or ex-partner.

Some Tips on Maintaining a Successful Parenting Arrangement
1. Aim to be Flexible - For example, if your former partner is sometimes late for pick-ups, it might help to be ready with alternative plans.

2. Try to Accept Different Parenting Styles - As long as your children are safe and secure, different parenting approaches and styles can help your children learn that different rules apply in different situations.

3. Keep your Ex-Partner or Ex-Spouse Up to Date - Your children will benefit when the other parent knows what is going on with the children.
