Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring the ownership of a property from one person to another. If you want to purchase or sell a home, land or investment property you will have to sign a contract. The legal work involved in preparing the sales contract, mortgage and other related documents, is called conveyancing.

What is the Difference Between A Lawyer and A Conveyancer?
A lawyer is a person who is qualified to provide legal advice regarding the rights and obligations of a seller and buyer throughout the course of a conveyance. For example, a lawyer is qualified to provide legal advice regarding the terms of the contract and whether a particular term has been breached.
A conveyancer is a person who is experienced in the area of conveyancing but is unable to provide legal advice. They are skilled at managing the sale or purchase of a property from the date the contract is signed until the date settlement occurs, under the supervision of a qualified lawyer.

How Long Does the Conveyancing Process Take?
The conveyancing process will begin once all parties have signed the Contract. The period between when the Contract has been signed and settlement will depend on the terms of each individual Contract. Generally, settlement is often 30 or so days from the date of Contract.

Who Notifies the Authorities That I Have Purchased or Sold A Property?
The purchaser through their solicitor/ conveyancer will notify all relevant bodies about the transaction.
