Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) is a permanent visa that allows you to stay in Australia indefinitely and to work and study in Australia. Applicant must meet the balance-of-family test plus character and health requirement, have an Assurance of Support (AoS), and be sponsored by an eligible Australia citizen or permanent resident.
Visa 143 applicants are eligible to apply for a Medicare card the moment the Visa is granted. A Medicare card will allow you access to range of medical services and prescriptions at a lower cost, and free care as public patient in a public hospital.
Applicants of this Visa who exceed the age of 60 years old, with less than 20 work hours per week, are also eligible to apply for a Senior Card, for an example, in South Australia. A Seniors Card provides its holder a range of concessions and benefits from free public transport to discounts on retail and services.
Applicants might potentially be interested in claiming an Age Pension in the future. However, Applicants of this Visa should be advised that they are eligible to claim an Age Pension only after the 10 year AoS period has come to an end, that they will need to meet certain eligibility requirements (such as assets test, income test, age, and residence rules), and that these rules are subject to change.
At a mere AUD$47,455, the opportunity to reunite with your family and eligible benefits receivable will be yours in no time.
