Charged with Traffic Offences

Traffic offences and driving offences are often the same. When driving a motor vehicle, there are laws to make sure you drive safely and obey the road rules. If you disobey these traffic laws, this is a traffic offence.

Traffic offences are a complex area of law and being charged with an offence can be very serious. Penalties can range from receiving a fine, incurring demerit points, a probation order or even going to jail. This depends on the type of offence, the circumstances, and your traffic history.

Representation in Court

If you are charged you will have to go to court. You will need to decide if you are going to plead guilty or not guilty. You can represent yourself at Court but we strongly recommend that you get legal advice first. If you are found guilty, a magistrate will decide what penalties to give you.

Here at Straits Lawyers, we provide services such as:
• Discussing your options and the probable outcomes when we meet you in person;
• Liaising with the police prior to you being charged (if possible);
• If you decided to plead guilty, we can represent you in Court for a mitigation plea and sentencing;
• If you decided to plead not guilty, we can represent you in your defended trial; and
• Assisting with any bail applications.

If you have been charged with any traffic or criminal offence, the importance of working with a criminal law professional should not be overlooked as it can be the difference between being found guilty or innocent. Straits Lawyers can work with you to provide you with advice about dealing with the police prior to the finalisation of charges, helping to ensure that you do not inadvertently harm your defence.

If you have been charged with a criminal law matter and would like to find out more about your rights and options, Straits Lawyers are here to help. We are now offering online services in both English and Chinese.
