New Government: What does this mean for Australian Migration? Property Settlement of Separated Partners Guardianship & Administration – How are they different? View All NewsAustralian citizenship is the final step in the migration journey and is a process in which a non-Australian citizen voluntarily becomes an Australian citizen. As part of the application process, most applicants must pass a ‘citizenship test’. This test is designed to assess whether applicants have an adequate knowledge of Australia, its democratic system, beliefs and values, and the responsibilities as a citizen.
Changes from 15 November 2020
From 15 November 2020, the Australian citizenship test will be updated. The updated test includes revised citizenship test questions and new test questions on Australian values. The citizenship test has been modified so that aspiring Australians will need to correctly answer questions about the country’s values, the federal government is expected to announce.
The test is a computer-based, multiple choice test in English which comprises 20 randomly selected questions. Currently, applicants must answer 15 questions (75 per cent) correctly to pass the test. From 15 November 2020 the test will change to include five questions on Australian values which must all be answered correctly, with an overall pass mark of at least 75 per cent.
If you have applied for Australian citizenship and do not yet have a test date scheduled, we encourage you to read the material and undertake the practice tests provided by the Department of Home Affairs.
